Whether you’re handed a name and left to figure it out, or whether you leave our office with a clear path, a trusted contact, and the confidence that your care is being thought about as a whole.

An orthodontic case that requires more than aligners can offer. An implant that needs to be placed before a restoration can follow. A bite concern with a skeletal component that goes beyond the teeth themselves.

What determines a patient’s experience in these moments is whether their dentist stays involved or steps away. Whether the handoff is thoughtful or transactional. Whether the specialist they’re sent to is someone their dentist genuinely knows and trusts, or simply a name on a list.

Until restorative work is planned without accounting for what the specialist has already done. Until someone falls between the cracks of a handoff that nobody managed.

It comes down to honest clinical judgment. If a case is within our scope and we’re confident we can deliver the best outcome, we treat it. If a specialist would serve you better — because of the complexity of the case, the precision required, or the nature of the procedure — we say so and make the referral. We never keep a case in-house for the wrong reasons, and we never refer simply to avoid something manageable.
We maintain working relationships with periodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, endodontists, and orthodontists in the Brea and broader Orange County area. These are providers we know personally, whose work we trust, and with whom we communicate directly on shared patients.
No. We make the referral, provide the contact, and in many cases communicate directly with the specialist’s office on your behalf to facilitate the appointment. You won’t be left to navigate the process alone.
You come back to us. The specialist handles their portion of the care — surgery, advanced periodontal treatment, implant placement, whatever is needed — and we pick up the restorative or ongoing care that follows. We’ll be in communication with the specialist throughout so that the transition back is smooth and nothing is lost between providers.
Absolutely. If you have an existing relationship with a specialist or a preference for a particular provider, we respect that completely. We’ll communicate with whoever you choose and coordinate accordingly. Our goal is simply that your care is connected and continuous — regardless of who the specialist is.
Not necessarily. Specialist referrals are a normal, routine part of comprehensive dental care. Many referrals are for straightforward procedures that simply fall outside the scope of general dentistry — a surgical extraction, a complex root canal, an implant placement. A referral means we’re thinking carefully about who is best positioned to handle your specific need. It’s a sign of thorough care, not cause for alarm.
